Meet Astrid, the most recent addition to the Ajen team. After working as a full-time artist for several years, Astrid is now excited to work as part of a team again. Ajen feels like a natural match: a brand rooted in slowing down, thoughtful care and finding pleasure in the small moments of everyday life.
A rhythm that closely reflects how she lives in the south of Spain. Inspired by the surrounding nature, Moorish architecture and Spanish life, she creates semi-abstract paintings in which color takes the lead.
What is you favorite nature escape?
'The mountains near my home. Going for a hike, running along the river with a view, or even walking through the city with the mountains in the background. Maybe especially coming from the (beautiful) flat landscape of the Netherlands, those mountains always feel like a treat.'
Which Ajen product do you enjoy most?
'The Scent Diffuser is an unexpected favorite. I used to think diffusers weren’t really for me, as I often find the scents quite overwhelming. With this one it’s completely different; the fragrance is really subtle and natural,. I’m using it with Citruspeper, to add a fresh note to my living room.'
How do you like to begin your mornings?
'I am not a morning person, so my favorite mornings start with a slow coffee and going outside for a short walk. Now that I’m answering this question, I realise I used to have a time where I’d fit in yoga and journaling too. Maybe this is a good moment to bring that routine back, at least for some mornings. But for a good start to my day, coffee and a walk matter most.'
Digital Detox
'Over the years, I’ve collected all sorts of creative hobbies, and when I get focused I forget all about my phone. Sewing, gardening, lino cuts, working with clay, and obviously painting. That focus on slowing down and doing things with care is, to me, very much what Ajen is about.'
